OUR STORY
“But what do you actually do?” – We grow food, my friends. We plant seeds into beautifully composted soil and we shower them with love and we weed endlessly while singing (okay, maybe that’s just Alisha), and we use science, experience, books, stories, our community, and our hearts as well as our minds, to guide how and what we grow. We spend our days outside in the sunshine working hard, coming in covered in soil after harvesting jewelled rows of potatoes. We eat endless fresh vegetables and cook for each other and trade abundances of canned, pickled everything. We teach, we learn, we share, we celebrate.
Alisha M'Lot
Alisha is most passionate about sharing what she loves with others, helping to empower folks around her, and bringing colour to everything she does. She loves to move her body, be creative, and feel the seasons change.
Alisha began her farm journey Wwoofing in New Zealand, followed by taking the UBC Farm Practicum in Sustainable Agriculture. She later taught the very same UBC Farm Practicum, as well as being a lead farmer in their production fields for a number of years.
Her earlier life as a cook and baker on the Sunshine Coast paired with an Environmental Studies degree from UVic inspired her movement into the world of small scale farming. She is currently a director for the Southern Sunshine Coast Farmers institute.

When not covered in soil, you'll find Alisha kayaking Desolation Sound, backpacking the in Tetrahedron, and stopping to gaze in awe at most everything. You'll likely hear her joyful, off-key singing too! She is infatuated with tomatoes.
Evan Goh
Evan grew up in Vancouver, BC and dearly loves this corner of the world we call the Pacific Northwest. He received his BSc in Biology from UBC, where he also began his farming journey at the UBC Farm.

To him, farming is work that makes him feel the rhythms and cycles of the natural world, to feel the shape of the earth we live on and to find a place for himself within it.

Evan has a ravenous curiousity for the natural world. When not in the rush of the farm day, whether it is a native orchid, a tasty fungus, or a tiny bug, he will take his time to give it the attention it deserves.

His favourite crop to grow is any type of seed crop, and is enamoured with seedkeeping, plant breeding and and seed sovereignty. Ask him about beans.
We have been lucky enough to participate in the Young Agrarians Business Network Mentorship, a program which matches new farm operators with long-established mentors for a year. To learn more, read our interview here.
